Recovery, repair, and research

Every drive is examined by the same person who does the work. No call centers, no shipping off to a lab you've never heard of.

Logical

Logical & filesystem recovery

The drive is recognized but your files aren't there: deleted by mistake, a "please format this disk" prompt, a RAW partition, or a drive that disconnects partway through copying. I image the drive first, so recovery works from a copy and the original is touched as little as possible.

Typical signs: files missing, asks to format, shows as RAW, very slow or drops out.

Hardware

Physical USB & PCB repair

Snapped or bent connectors, lifted pads, cracked boards, burnt components, and power faults. Microsoldering, trace repair and component replacement bring the drive back long enough to read everything off it.

Typical signs: connector broken or loose, no light, gets hot, physically damaged.

Firmware

Controller & firmware investigation

Drives that show up with the wrong name, report 0 bytes or 8 MB, appear as "write protected", or never finish initializing. These usually mean the controller has lost its translation tables or firmware. Reverse engineering the controller is often the only way to rebuild access to the data.

Typical signs: wrong capacity, "insert disk", unknown device, permanently write-protected.

Research

Experimental NAND recovery

When the controller is beyond saving, the data still lives in the NAND flash. Chip-off reading, ECC and scrambling analysis, and reconstruction of the logical image, including work on monolithic devices. This is active research: cases are taken individually, with honest odds up front.

Typical signs: dead controller, previous recovery attempts failed, monolithic or microSD devices.

Pricing

$49 to start

Every case starts with an evaluation at the base price. Many logical recoveries are completed for that price. Anything more involved is quoted after diagnosis, and no extra work starts until you approve the quote in the client portal.
